A member asked:

Why is my whole family schizophrenic? is it genetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There is a clear: genetic propensity to experience this illness if one biologic parent is diagnosed with schizophrenia (concordance rate = 16% vs. 1-3% in the general population). If both biological parents are dx'ed the concordance rate jumps to 64% Concordance rates are higher for identical twins, but less than for bio-parents when considering aunts, uncles and grandparents.
