What can they do for a baby with a herniated belly button?

Nothing to do: Must herniated belly buttons are self limited (they will go away with time). Most hernias of the navel will close on their own over 3-5 years. Be patient.

Benefits fetus: It helps a fetus to have loose belly muscles.Otherwise the blood passing into the belly button from the placenta would have a hard time at that tight area. After birth, the strap muscles of the belly remain loose until baby begins to sit up, pull up & otherwise tighten them.At that point, most pooched out bb's go back in.If still out after walking a year, i'll have them evaluated for surgery.
