A member asked:

Why do we need antibiotics if we have an immune system? shouldn't we be able to kill bacteria on our own?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good question: Many bacterial will eventually be conquered by the immune system on it's own but may take too long and with complications. Some bacteria have specialized and evolved clever ways to resist the immune system and those are the ones that cause disease unless treated.. There's an ongoing arms race with pathogens we encounter. And we are outnumbered!
