Chronic otitis : One possibility, if it is a middle ear infection, is poor function of the eustachain tube which drains the middle ear space into the back of the throat. Another is the presence of a resistant organism. For external otitis recurrence can be due to swimming, incomplete eradication of the bacteria, allergies, eczema in the ear canal, fungal infection, or cellulitis of the ear canal.
