Genetics: Usually this is an inherited trait and is a benign condition but you should be evaluated by a physician. There are a few conditions such as dysplastic nevi syndrome (that's the old name) now called the Familial Atypical Multiple Mole and Melanoma (FAMMM) that may be associated with a higher risk of melanoma. This may require biopsy of unusual appearing moles.
