Nocturnal lagophthal: This is called nocturnal lagophthalmos and is not as rare as you might think. Most individuals with this condition have only a small opening while sleeping and have a "Bell's reflex" wherein their eyes turn up while they sleep--thereby protecting the sensitive center of the eye (the cornea). If you have symptoms of blurriness or irritation when wakening see an eye doctor. You may need an ointment
