Painful: Crps is a poorly understood disorder characterized by significant pain, more than should be present after an injury, typically in the hand or foot. There is often swelling, sweating, color and temperature abnormalities and sensitivity to touch. It is thought to be a problem of the sympathetic nervous system - the nerves that regulated blood pressure, heart rate and blood vessels.

CRPS: This is a pain disorder that is thought to come from an overactive sympathetic nervous system. This results in high levels of pain and allodynia (pain from a non painful stimulus). There also changes in the skin temperature and texture. There can be swelling and sweaty/clammy skin in the area of the pain. There is certain criteria to meet the diagnosis. High levels of pain are not enough.
