Perhaps never: Lattice degeneration lesions are considered by some to have increased risk of retinal tear and detachment. However, it is not clearly established that such an association exists. Many practitioners treat lattice degeneration only if the fellow eye has had a retinal tear or detachment. There is no 'intrinsic expectation' that an eye with lattice would have a retinal detachment.
