Depends?: This depends on why they were prescribed? For acne? I would take as your prescribing doctor wrote them. If you get lots of sensitivity and redness with the retin a, (tretinoin) back off to a pea sized amount every other day rather than every day. And stay out of the sun. And wear your sunscreen.
