A member asked:

When a femur is filled with an iim rod after a fracture, how does it affect the bone marrow?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Intramedullary nail: Not much of an affect at all. There is only a relatively small portion of marrow elements present in long bones(femur, tibia, humerus) after puberty compared to the rest of the body but most bone marrow cells per say are located in the bones of the pelvis and axial skeleton.
