Is endep (amitriptyline) effective for fibromyalgia?

7 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

See below: Endep (amitriptyline) (amitriptylline) is a medication that is often used for fibromyalgia in certain people. One of the way it helps is that it causes drowsiness and helps people sleep which is a big problem in fibromyalgia. Because of its many side effects, it may not be well tolerated by older people. It should be avoided in people who have heart problems, prostate problems and glaucoma.

Yes and no: Endpe is a tricyclic antidepressnat. This class is commonly used in fibromylagia but comes with a number of side effects. Endep (amitriptyline) happens to work well but does have a higher propensity to cause these problems. Another if you cannot handle these side effects you may want to discuss another class like snri's with your physician.
