Several options: In most geographic areas, including all of the US, the standard recommended treatment is a single shot of ceftriaxone (Rocephin®) plus either a single oral dose of azithromycin (Zithromax®) or 7 days of doxycycline. Oral cefixime sometimes can safely be given instead of the ceftriaxone shot. There are other options if these antibiotics can't be given, such as allergy to them.
