Culture: Culture for drug sensitivity to avoid gun slinging antibiotics which are not effective.

Culture : The physician should take a swab of the infected site and send it for culture(growth) to the lab which will also conduct a "sensitivity" test to see which antibiotics will work and those that are resistant and won't work. If all else fails, the MD should check with the centers for disease control(cdc) in Atlanta for the latest possible antibiotic Rx for gonorrhea resistant strains.

It depends...: ... on the details of antibiotic resistance, which in turn is related to where you are in the world. Despite all the news stories, true multidrug resistant gonorrhea is still absent in the US, including the NY area. The standard recommended treatment -- a shot of ceftriaxone plus either azithromycin or doxycycline by mouth -- will be 100% effective (assuming you weren't infected in, say, Korea).
