Cell status: Bone marrow aspiration is used to evaluate the blood cells within the bone marrow, as well as structure. They are performed in conjunction with a complete blood count (CBC) and blood smear to provide info about the health of the bone marrow and capability for blood cell production. The bone marrow is also the reservoir for tumor cells breaking off the primary lesion and entering circulation. They can remain there for many years finally being released where they then travel to a metastatic site.
