A 41-year-old member asked:

How long will it take for my dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) effect to begin?

Very quick: The wonderful thing about stimulants is that they work essentially immediately. Once you find an effective dose, benefits should start 20-30 minutes after you take the medication and last, for dexedrine, (dextroamphetamine) probably about 8-10 hours, maybe a bit less. Similarly, benefit goes away about as quickly; typically benefit fades late in the day, & the medication is out of your body by next morning.

A 38-year-old female asked:

What will Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) do if i snort it?

A really stupid: thing to do. About the only reason for snorting dexedrine is abuse by an addict. You bypass the GI tract and risk a much more rapid onset of action without the gradual release the pill or capsule provides. Over time you will erode the nasal mucosa. You could get an accidental overdose and because it is not sterile you could get a CNS infection. Beyond that you will be sliding down a very slippery slope regarding the legality of your acquisition and use of dexedrine.

When you use the phrase "if I snort it" the question does not come across as hypothetical. Thank you for clarifying that.

Half an hour or so. : Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) is rapid acting & short lasting. There should be positive findings soon after the first dose. We usually wait several days to allow the patient to get "used to" the side effects before adjusting the dose. I usually wait two weeks.
