Oh that smell.: An odor molecule lands on a receptor site located in the nasal cavity. Each receptor site is specific to an odor. There are approximately 40 million receptors. When stimulated the receptor sends an electrical signal to the brain and ultimately ends at the brain's olfactory cortex. It is here that the odor is recognized. The physiology is further complicated by the physiology of taste.
