Are there any new hip replacement technologies?

Better materials: The surgical procedure hasn't changed much. Both the anterior and posterior approaches work very well. The prosthetic designs are not changing much. The new technology is in the materials; in particular the plastic. The new plastic is stronger and wears less. This allows the use of bigger femoral heads which helps reduce the risk of dislocation

Surgical techniques and pain management strategies continue to improve. Implant designs are mostly comparable, and gradually improve with time. Robots and navigation and technologies are being tried, but evidence that it actually improves clinical outcomes are limited. Perhaps in the future these technologies will improve outcomes.
