A member asked:

I'm just starting zoloft (sertraline) today and also am an occasional smoker. i know i need to quit.. but are there any complications with smoking while on zoloft (sertraline)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No interactions: are known. Smoking increases the level of certain liver enzymes that metabolize a number of drugs, including several psychiatric drugs and some specific antidepressants, such as fluvoxamine (Luvox). However, sertraline (Zoloft) is metabolized through other systems. However, talk to your doctor about smoking cessation and try to formulate a quit plan when you're ready. Good luck with your treatment
