A member asked:

For non-std or non-mumps orchitis is cipro (ciprofloxacin) usually the drug of choice? how effective is 2 weeks of cipro (ciprofloxacin)/cipro (ciprofloxacin) in general for that? in "most" cases?

Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for most cases: A 2 week course of cipro for bacterial non-std orchitis should be highly effective. Antibiotics prescribed will depend on the patient age and underlying cause of the bacterial infection. Antibiotics commonly used may include ciprofloxacin (Cipro), ceftriaxone (Rocephin - only IV or IM), doxycycline (Vibramycin, Doryx), or azithromycin (Zithromax).
