Not just a sprain?: Ankle sprains often take a very long time to resolve and often an ankle "sprain" may actually be a more severe injury such as a ligament injury or a cartilage injury in the ankle joint. For persistent pain after an ankle sprain I would recommend being evaluated by an orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in foot and ankle injuries.

NOT YET HEALED: Did you initially see a dr., or treat it yourself? If there is pain, something has not healed, either a ligament or even a broken bone. Unfortunately, a lot of "sprains" are undertreated, w/ people having lingering problems, sometimes a lifetime. It's also possible it's another joint; the subtalar joint. Only a doctor's exam would know for sure. Sincerely, Dr. Latva
