What are the consequences if you sleep with wet hair? i usually sleep with it in a braid, but my mother says it can cause balding... is that true?

Wet hair: I doubt that wet hair would cause balding, but do you really need to go to bed with wet hair? Why not dry your hair a little before you go to bed!

Wet hair: Over time, sleeping with wet hair can cause breakage of hair & if you are in a cold environment it may cause you to feel colder. If your hair is pulled taut (such as a tight pony tail, tight bun or tight braids) that can cause hair breakage and traction alopecia (hair loss). Traction Alopecia may occur whether hair is wet or dry.
