Thrombocytopenia: Several different type of viruses can cause low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia). If your platelet count doesn't improve after the viral infection has resolved you will need to see a hematologist for further evaluation.

After a cold or virus i experience an extreme tickling biting feeling in my stomach. It causes me to want to cough. It goes away after several weeks.
Last week my doctor said I have pleuritis caused by virus. Would this cause platelet count to be higher? It was 501(501,000) and everything else ok.
