Start with...: Start changing your diet. Low fat, non fried food. Avoid sauces, spices, caffeine, soda, alcohol, mint, too much bread, too much sugar. All those can cause symptoms. You can also try antacids if you have the ability to get them at the nearest pharmacy or store.

Several things: People suffering from GERD should: eat 4-5 small meals instead of 2-3 large meals; limit liquids with meals; avoid lying down after eating; avoid alcohol and tobacco; cut out foods that increase your symptoms; if symptoms occur after bedtime use a wedge to elevate upper body and don't eat or drink for 3 hours prior to sleep.
