Reflux: Yes, anxiety and stress have been shown to worsen reflux. There are certain foods that can make reflux worse, too, like spicy foods and greasy foods. Yes: There is a ton of literature that links anxiety/stress to increased GI symptoms, especially in those predisposed to intestinal trouble. Traditionaly, psycholgist would have viewed this the GI symptoms as a conversion of the anxiety into a physical manifestation. Today, more psychologists would favor an approach that links stress to medica illness through research in the field of psychoneuroimmuno.
