What are possible reasons for a monthly period after having a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy? haven't been on hormone replacement for about 8 months and surgery was 13 months ago.

The only "good": reason is not a good reason: there's ovarian remnant, some ovary left behind. There's no other logical reason for "a monthly period." The alternative is bleeding of other causes (not a real period) and that's bothersome too. You need for sure to be evaluated by a good OBG soon, don't wait. Good wishes.
