A member asked:

Is it a good idea to replace statins -- lipitor (atorvastatin) in particular -- with grapefruit? my dad just did so, and i'm worried.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No!: Hi. Grapefruit is great stuff. I love it. But it's a tasty fruit and Lipitor (atorvastatin) is a fantastics death and disease reducing medicine. There is no relationship. It's like replacing your bicycle with a new kitchen faucet. Bicycles and kitchen faucets are both great things, but neither one can take the place of the other. My advice to your dad is enjoy the grapefruit and take Lipitor (atorvastatin)!
