Normal variation: Young females can have varying lengths and frequency of their menstrual periods. Many times anxiety/stress may be the cause, esp if you are a student or young worker with other emotional factors. Try to relax and learn meditation, which would help the situation. If the heavy bleeding continues despite these measures for several months, get checked for anemia and other measures to control bleeding

See your GYN: If you have been bleeding that long, you need to see your GYN.

Hormone imbalance: is generally the reason for a prolonged period, but if you have been bleeding for 2 months and now heavy, I recommend that you go to urgent care or see you doctor urgently. Hormonal medications can be prescribed to stop the flow, and, in addition, I recommend that blood tests be done to evaluate anemia, clotting studies, and hormonal levels.
