Abscess: The decision as to whether or not to place a drain is made by the treating Dentist, not by someone thousands of miles away. Amoxicillin may take 2 or more days to begin taking hold. Antibiotic will control spread of infection, not cure the abscess. Cure requires either extraction or root canal treatment. Discuss this with your Dentist.

Few Potential Reason: Not all swellings are drainable directly if inaccessible. also it may not be possible to adequately anaesthetize the area before draining so that one can be comfrtable for the procedure The gold standard way to treat in such cases would be intraosseous anaesthetic (anaesthetic into the bone) and then the required treatment - usually drainage and/or first stag root canal treatment or extraction
