Virus: This a viral infection that resolves within a week or so without any specific treatment other than gargling with warm salt water, drinking adequate fluids and taking Tylenol (acetaminophen) as needed and getting good rest. Some feel that taking extra vitamin C is helpful. Antibiotics are of use for simple head colds.
