Hypertension: An elevated blood pressure larger than 140/90 on 2 or more occasions in the doctor's office or at home meets criteria for diagnosis of hypertension. Management depends on patient's age, weight, other risk factors.

Three: Three readings on separate days greater than 140/90 are considered hypertension. In certain conditions such as diabetes, heart or kidney disease, lower readings may prompt treatment with medications. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Average: It's a matter of averages. Your arteries "see" the average of your blood pressure. Remember, the diagnosis of "high blood pressure" is based methodologically on measurement at complete rest for 10 minutes - that is, your lowest blood pressures. It's healthy to exercise daily, and exercise raises BP, but it's still healthy! Don't confuse an elevated measurement with the disease.
