No: No one has ever developed diabetes simply from eating too much sugar. Diabetes is more common as you get older, more common if you have a positive family history and is 70-90% related to being overweight. Yes, you can gain weight from eating too much sugar, but it's really total calories, as a gram of sugar has only 4 calories and it's 3,500 calories to gain a pound.

No: No one has ever developed diabetes from eating too much sugar, that's a popular misconception. It's too many calories and not enough activity that cause the weight gain that predisposes to diabetes - particularly if you have a positive family history and get older. Weight is the most important factor!
