Not the paddle.: Using the paddle on kids who misbehave would not go over too well in modern society. But a time-out, or a break, is a great idea and is still used today as a way to interrupt bad or disruptive behavior in a class. Better than just sending the kid to the Principal every time a class interruption occurs.

U.S. public schools : are mandated to have a " Zero Tolerance" policy for anyone's touching another person without consent. Time-outs are used in Pre-K- 1st grade & in Special Ed classrooms; then, token- economy or cost-response techniques in regular ed. & inclusion classrooms. Behavioral Intervention Plans with Positive Behavioral Supports are used for students with Neurobehavioral Disorders or mental illness.
