Not ovulating?: Often these variations in menstrual bleeding characteristics are due to a non-ovulatory cycle ... a cycle in which you did not not ovulate about two weeks before the period started. The brown discharge features & longer period suggest this; the brown discharge suggests older blood. This is very common. Of course, this type of change could also represent a miscarriage if that is possible.
