It's not permanent !: Anosmia or lack of the sense of smell is a common side effect when the nasal passages and sinuses become inflamed and clogged up during the early and acute phase of upper respiratory infections. Afrin nasal spray and inhaled steroids can help to reduce the inflammation acutely, but it takes time for the swelling to go away and with that the loss of smelling sense. Be patient !
