Usually yes: It is not uncommon for women to get spotting during the week of their period, even while on oral contraceptives. However, if prolonged spotting persists, or if you develop menstrual bleeding lasting longer than eight days, intermenstural bleeding (bleeding between periods), or markedly heavier bleeding during your period that may be a sign of abnormal uterine bleeding, which should be evaluated.
