Nature of the drug: The caffeine in energy drinks is primarily a stimulant to the nervous system. It impacts the cardiovascular system only in toxic doses, or in people who are particularly sensitive. This is particularly true if you are habituated by regular use.

A "dud"?: Usually energy drinks have plenty of caffeine and the response of many individuals to caffeine is very different:. For example, if you drink plenty of caffeinated beverages routinely and you add some more, the addition may not make any difference. Also: with a resting HR of 45 bpm, you must be in very good physical shape and HR response to caffeine may be blunted.
