Dermatitis: Sounds like you have more histamine left in your skin. Were the hives caused by an insect bite or a plant like poison ivy or something ingested? How were the hives treated? Most often the itching stays for a while after the hives are gone. If using an OTC cortisone cream does not help see your doc.

Continued histamine: Very likely the immune reaction which caused the hives, with histamine release, is still somewhat active. I doubt you have mites or any insect problem. Continue using the anti-histamines you were likely treated with (Benadryl?, Allegra (fexofenadine)?) or OTC topical cortisone as needed to control your current red itchy bumps. Best wishes!
