Prenatal screening: First trimester screening is a prenatal screening test for Trisomy 21 and Trisomy 18. It is done in the first 13 weeks of pregnancy and involves a blood test and an ultrasound. The ultrasound measures the thickness of the skin at the back of the fetal neck. The blood test measures certain hormones and proteins in the maternal blood. Maternal Fetal Medicine is study of high risk pregnancies.
