OTC cold meds: Most over the counter cough and cold preparations in the children's section are FDA approved for children aged 2 years and older. Several are available and usually similar to one another, with lists of symptoms addressed on the front label. These medications do not treat the illness, they mask the symptoms to promote comfort and rest. Prolonged or worsening symptoms should prompt an office visit

OTC: Very few. Most OTC meds are only for the over 6 year olds. Saline spray nasal solution for her nose and keep her room cool and not too dry. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen may help her symptoms. Any other symptoms such as fever, poor intake or trouble breathing should be seen by her MD. All the best and I hope she feels better soon.

Watching and Comfort: Monitor him for fever, temp above 100.1, and signs of difficulty in breathing. As long as he is breathing well, other than the runny or stuffy nose, just continue to monitor. We do not advise cold and cough medications in very young children. The side effects, are greater, than the benefits. Utilize a humidifyer in his room, and encourage increased fluid intake, helps lessen the harshness of cough
