Start new time ahead: Jet lag is a mismatch between your internal clock and the external world if possible begin to shift to the new time zone (or at least a few hours closer to new zone) prior to leaving. East or west?: It depends which direction you're headed. Going west you just try to get on the local schedule as quickly as you can. Going east is much more challenging because it's hard to fall asleep before your natural bedtime and hard to awaken early. Get bright light in the morning, dim light in the evening. A drug called rozerem (ramelteon) can help you reset your rhythm quicker. Prescription only.
