Penicillin: This antibiotic changed the world. Initially discovered by Dr. Fleming, from a mold contaminating his bacterial plates, to modern day drugs that save lives every day. It was discovered that 6-aminopenicillanic acid (6-APA) was an important building block for penicillin. This can be modified further to create different forms (such as amoxicillin, pipericillin etc) to best design drugs to kill germs
