A member asked:

What problems can arise from an edentulous alveolar ridge and how can they be avoided?

Alveolar ridge: An edentulous alveolar ridge will resorb over time. This can make it difficult to wear a denture. This can be avoided with implants.

Ridge resorption: An edentulous ridge will resorb over time, making wearing a removable prosthesis more difficult. Dental implants can be the best solution to solve this problem. Ask your dentist if you are a good candidate for dental implants.

Bone loss: Unless you have tooth roots or implants in the ridge to stimulate the bone, it will resorb (deteriorate/ dissolve) over time. Avoid losing teeth and having an edentulous ridge. If already edentulous, see the Prosthodontist for your implant reconstruction options. Dr. Greg Jacobs in Tampa is excellent. Good Luck.
