Yes: Mesothelioma is actually a type of cancer; this cancer affects the lining of the lung and can be very difficult to treat. It usually occurs in smokers who have had asbestos exposure; sometimes the asbestos exposure may have occurred many years ago.

Depends on stage: The survival depends on size of tumor, presence of lymph nodes and distant disease at the time of diagnosis. Stage 1 disease can have 5 yr survival rates between 80-90%. Advanced disease, stage 3 and 4 have poor 5 yr survival rates.

Need more info!: What type of lung cancer? Different types have different survival rates. That being said, the average 5 year survival for all stage 2 lung cancers is 40-50%. Just remember what mark twain had to say about statistics: "there are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics!" statistics apply to groups. Individual experiences can, and do, vary.
