Smoking: Many people live in the us and many of them smoke or have smoked. As a percentage, the us is not worse than many other countries, including europeans. It is all a matter of smoking and pollution.

Smoking, radon...: 80% of lung cancer is caused by smoking, and there is often a 20 year lag period. As smoking decreases, so will lung cancer, but it will take time. Also, there are 3, 000 lung cancer deaths per year related to second hand smoke. Other causes include radon exposure. Also, rising incidence in lung ca in never smokers. These are molecular mutation factors.
