You need to speak : With your doctor before taking any prescription drugs that have recently been moved to OTC status for proper evaluation, diagnosis, dosing and treatment to prevent OD/under dosing. Since Zantac is a histamine 2 blocker that reduces stomach acid & Nexium (esomeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor that basically does the same by a different mechanism. Side effects, effectiveness are dose dependent.
