History, exam, labs: Your provider will usually take your medical and obstetrical history and perform an exam, including a pap-smear and vaginal cultures. Sometimes, depending on your gestational age, an ultrasound is performed. Your provider will also order lots of bloodwork and get a urine sample. He/she will make sure you are on pre-natal vitamins. Other things may be done depending on gestational age.
