Time or surgery: Cysts on the ovary will frequently go away on their own with time (2-3 months). If they are persistent and large, laparoscopic surgery is usually the treatment of choice. At surgery, they can be shelled out of the ovary and removed. Sometimes what appears to be an ovarian cyst on ultrasound is found at surgery to be something else such as a fluid fill ovarian tumor or fallopian tube cyst.
