What can you do about an infected splinter?

Remove it: By far the most important thing, and usually the only thing needed, is to remove the splinter. The infection will then clear up. In rare cases of complications (e.g. cellulitis, lymphangitis (red streak), fever, etc) an antibiotic may be needed as well.
