What goes on in the brain during fainting?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lost of blood flow: The most common cause of fainting is a reduction in blood flow to the brain that leads to the sensation of blacking out and fainting. Contributors to this include anything that could inhibit blood flow, including: heart arrhythmias, dehydration/low blood pressure (followed by standing up quickly), narrowing of blood vessels in the neck.
