Brain surgery: No. General anesthesia is performed with intravenous medicines. However, you are not alone. Most people hate needles and many become faint at the sight or the first stick (vasovagal response). The anesthesiologist will give medicine to help you relax and you will be lying on a stretcher when they first place the needle to avoid fainting. Focus on a speedy recovery from surgery and not the needle.
